Mundy – highlights of 2011 / London show

A Message from Mundy

So first and foremost, I would like to wish my fans a very Happy New Year and thank you all for your continued support.

The year began with tying up the loose ends as you do before releasing an album. Pictures, mastering, track list, press etc etc. Gigs trickled in and got more unusual as the year rolled along. Like, playing for Barack Obama, to supporting Emmylou Harris-meeting her and talking about how cool the president’s wife seemed to be….have a gander.

Highlights of 2012

(1) I did some college gigs and then some small shows with two great songwriters based in Austin, Texas called Charlie Faye and Will Sexton. Will lent a hand on ‘Raining Down Arrows”

(2) Me telling Emmylou how lady president seemed to blush when meeting Daniel Day at the back of the crowd!

(3) Barack saying something to Brian O’Driscoll like ‘Well, you must be an athlete..you are rock solid dude!!”

(3) The Bob Dylan 70th Anniversary gig that the Fleadh Cowboys put together-the night after Obama left town was more special to me as I know more about Bob than Obama!!

(4) Steve Earle giving me a great mention in the Sunday Times for Myself and Sharon’s version of Galway Girl. He actually dedicated it to me in the Olympia in 2010 after we had a bowl of soup together.

(5) Hanging out with his son Justin Townes and Joe Pug in Australia and all the gigs that went with it, including a couple of wild gigs around St Paddies with the Wolfe Tones.

(6) The L.A ink girl tweeted that ‘To You I Bestow’ was her song of the moment, which made it my most downloaded song on iTunes.

(7) Did a gig in Dubai, which was sweltering but had a packed audience at the beautiful Boddington towers.

(8) Did some great charity gigs..one for Haiti at Whelan’s in Dublin, that had a lot of my favourite men to jam and shoot the breeze with on the line up, Paddy Casey, Glen Hansard, Declan O’Rourke, Mark Geary, Luka Bloom and some more.

(9) During all of this i was out there promoting my new album ‘Shuffle’ which is a tribute album to some of my favourite American Song Slingers. I played every nook and cranny, length and breadth of our lovely land and met some great people along the way.

(10) Did a lovely little video for Kathy’s Song with Lindsey Byrne at Krank Music Video’s. A young lad called Conor O’Brien plays a young Mundy! I only hope he knows what he has ahead of him.

(11) Played lots of festivals and landed two supports to the great Imelda May at the Marquee in Cork. They were such great gigs.

(12) The Electric Picnic was a cracking gig and that was followed by a theater tour of Ireland with a new line up to get in style with ‘Shuffle”. The Band featured Colm Quearney on Guitars, Keith Farrell on Double Bass, Sarah Catriona Lynch on Violin and Keyboards and Graham Hopkins on Drums.

(13) There was also the tribute to Mic Christopher for his 10-year anniversary. May you stay Forever Young! The line up was 2 words–’UNREAL”!! Scullion, Mike Scott, Interference, Miriam Ingram, The Frames, The Mary Janes, Eoin Glackin, Nina Hynes, Clare Nicholson, Me, Liam O’Maonlai, Mathew Deverux, The Coronas, Paul Brady, Paul Tiernan, Philip Marshall, Acko and Vincent Swan, Pete Courtney, Paddy Casey, Peter Murphy, Harry Christopher, Amy Christopher, Eoin Dillon and the girl that played with him, the children and that’s prob only half who played on that beautiful spectacular night.

(14) Youth, the bassist with the English Band ‘Killing Joke’-who produced my 1st album “Jelly Legs” found my e mail address that I gave him at one of their gigs and wrote to me (pretty much 15years to Jelly legs release date) saying that I should make my way back to London to maybe write and record a new album-so I booked a flight. Been over twice now so we’ll see….

(15) They year kept getting better..just as i thought that there were no suprises left. Next, I got offered two more gigs with Imelda May at the o2. Man she is such a star and she packed the place to the rafters 2 nights in a row. Bono introduced himself to me as I unloaded my car on the way in to the o2 and I told him (holding 2 cowboy hats) about my hat dilemma..he said that’s not a bad dilemma to have!!

(16) Did a big busk for the homeless carried out by Glen Hansard on Christmas Eve..nearly everyone I have mentioned in this blog turned up for a song.
I don’t mean to be dropping names but I am still blown away by the great people that I get to meet and share music with. It’s the one thing we all agree on…most of the time!!

So that’s it for now.. back to the box sets and drawing boards and the dehoarding.

Take it easy and Happy 2012
